This summer, many of us read the heartbreaking story in the Journal de Montréal about a Dorval couple, Sylvie and her husband, whose basement flooded again less than a year after renovations. They lost almost everything: family photos, wedding albums, decades of memories. Their insurer warned them this would be the last reimbursement.

That story could have been any of us. Flooding isn’t just water in a basement — it’s the loss of security, heritage, money and peace of mind.

𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆

Dorval has already paid for professional studies on flooding, but residents haven’t been allowed to see them. That must change. We will make those findings public and bring engineers, planners, and infrastructure experts to the table to identify and address the real causes.

𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀

Families shouldn’t face this crisis alone. We need a fair subsidy program to help homeowners flood-proof their properties. This won’t just be financial aid — City experts will guide each project so solutions are effective for families and aligned with Dorval’s wider infrastructure.

𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀

Climate change is here. Rains are heavier, storms are stronger, and we must adapt. Building resilience means partnership on all levels:

• with residents,

• with provincial and federal governments,

• with insurance companies and local crisis-management nonprofits,

• and with our neighbouring cities and the CMM, because water doesn’t stop at municipal borders.

Together, we can protect people, their homes, and their livelihoods — not just for the next storm, but for the years to come.

Dorval deserves leadership that listens, understands and acts. By facing climate change with honesty, compassion, and determination, we can build a city that is stronger, safer and ready for tomorrow.
