My reply to Marc Doret

My fellow citizens,
Let me make this perfectly clear. We are equally disappointed by the recent attacks directed to some candidates. None of our candidates nor myself have engaged in, supported or encouraged any such behaviour. We categorically condemn personal attacks of any kind and we have said so both on social media and in person.
From the outset, we have discouraged anyone who comes to us with rumours or unverified information. We are not in the business of censorship, but we do not tolerate disrespect. Some of your own supporters have unfortunately also made disparaging comments online, yet we have deliberately chosen not to respond. Instead, we have remained steadfast in sharing factual, public information, focusing on issues such as good governance, transparency and accountability.
We, too, are upset by the tone that the campaign has taken not only on social media but equally what is being said door to door. Every day I am confronted with things said about me and my team, coming from yourself and your candidates, that I must show is not factual nor accurate. Politics should elevate our community, not divide it. That is why we have vetted all of our candidates thoroughly, to ensure that each one has the right background, experience and integrity to represent the citizens of Dorval honourably.
Our commitment remains the same: to serve the people of Dorval with professionalism, respect and truth. When we disagree, we do so transparently and respectfully, often in short, clear statements, never personal attacks.
We sincerely hope that, moving forward, all parties and candidates will join us in maintaining the kind of campaign that Dorval citizens deserve, one rooted in honesty, respect and mutual dignity.
We cannot and will not take responsibility for the actions or comments made by individuals over whom we have no control. What we can control and have demonstrated consistently, is the integrity of our message and the professionalism of our candidates.
We have made it clear, both publicly and within our team, that personal attacks and online harassment have no place in this campaign and that we can trust the integrity of the upcoming voting procedure.
However, Marc Doret says, and I quote, “What is equally disturbing is the complete silence from the opposition party. Their lack of condemnation leads one to believe that they tacitly support these attacks. In moments like these, leadership is measured not only by what one says, but also by what one chooses not to say. Silence in the face of injustice is complicity.” I take offence to these lines, especially coming from an individual like Marc Doret. I hope that the citizens of Dorval will not fall for this “Holier than thou” sermon.
Yours truly,
Umberto Macri
