Démocratie Dorval Democracy welcomes the statement issued by the Comité d'action des locataires de l'Ouest-de-l'Île Calodi (CALODI), the Table de Quartier Sud de l'Ouest de l'Île (TQSOI), and the Table de Quartier du Nord de l'Ouest-de-l'Île de Montréal (TQNOIM), calling for stronger and more inclusive municipal housing policies across the West Island.
Members of our team have met with representatives of these organizations and with several community members over recent months. Their message is one we share: access to housing is a question of dignity, fairness, and community well-being, and it requires concrete and coordinated action at the local level.
As stated in our official platform:
“𝘞𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘷𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘢 𝘨𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶, 𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘵.”
“𝘞𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘨𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘵𝘢𝘹𝘦𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘺, 𝘶𝘱𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘧𝘳𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘵 𝘧𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘱𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵.”
“𝘞𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘤𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘮𝘦𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘢𝘫𝘰𝘳 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘫𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘦𝘣𝘤𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘴 𝘱𝘶𝘣𝘭𝘪𝘤 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘥.”
These commitments reflect our guiding principles of Respect, Competence, and Accountability, ensuring that Dorval’s growth benefits residents first and foremost.
Our platform also includes a direct commitment to:
- 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻: “We will set up a Housing Task Force to find solutions to secure affordable housing for everyone within a year, in order to protect tenant rights.”
- 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: through responsible zoning, heritage preservation, and the integration of housing, transportation, and community services.
- 𝗠𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: to ensure that affordable housing initiatives are pursued sustainably and transparently.
Our mayoral candidate, Umberto Macri, added:
“𝘖𝘶𝘳 𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘳𝘦 𝘋é𝘮𝘰𝘤𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘦 𝘋𝘰𝘳𝘷𝘢𝘭 𝘋𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘤𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘺 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘮 𝘪𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘧𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢 𝘵𝘰𝘱 𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘵𝘦. These commitments are further detailed in our public statement “Housing for All — A Priority for Dorval.” It reads:
“𝘏𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵, 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘢 𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘨𝘦. 𝘛𝘰𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨-𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘋𝘰𝘳𝘷𝘢𝘭 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘯𝘰 𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘧𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘥. 𝘏𝘪𝘨𝘩-𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘱𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘤𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘱𝘶𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘰𝘶𝘵. 𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦.”
Démocratie Dorval Democracy believes that the time for complacency has passed. Together with community organizations, experts, and residents, we are ready to act with transparency, respect, and foresight, to build an inclusive and compassionate Dorval where everyone has a place to call home.
